LFW: On hold at Phoebe English AW16
February 22, 2016

“Your call is very important to us, please hold the line”
Yesterday, the ICA Theatre room was transformed into an anonymous greyscale waiting room for Phoebe English’ AW16 eerie presentation with the BFC. Models waited forever for their turn whilst paths of strewn tickets littered the floor, evident that this moment had happened a million times over. Technical glitches, television static and the occasional tick of a clock sounded the room with a constant reminder that the models were on hold, a nightmare scenario made relevant in a hot, basement room.
Phoebe continued to focus on textiles this season, with handmade fabrics presented alongside asymmetric garments, mixed with gothic palettes of black, plumb, midnight blues and bright whites. Pieces were shredded, knotted and decorated with sequins. Mixed into the collection was a leather ox-blood dress, fractured and sculptured onto the body.
