Ashnikko is the musician unafraid to assert her identity and believes, with no compromises and no fucks given. After releasing her empowering anthem Blow earlier this year, the London-based American drops her visceral new track, Invitation, featuring Kodie Shane.
Inspired by experiences of misogyny, patriarchy and the constant battle for equal rights, Invitation is the forth-wave feminist anthem for womxn everywhere to shout from the rooftops. “I wish I had a song about consent to scream and sing along to when I was younger,” she says with a wave of disappointment across her face. "I wish I had more songs about consent and female empowerment to scream and dance to now.”
Tackling injustice with creativity and synth trap, Ashnikko is using her voice to challenge gender discrimination, one beat at a time. "I want to regain my power the only way I know how; through music. I'm sick and tired of our female experience not being believed," she says.
The accompanying illustrated video was directed by BRICKS favourite, Venus Libido, whose equal ability to tackle important social issues with relatable graphics is the perfect match for the musician. Listen to the track and watch the full video below.
‘Invitation’ will feature on Ashnikko’s new EP ‘Unlikeable’ which will be released this autumn.
